Bio

Brendan Johannsen is COO and managing director at Teneo Risk, where he leads the corporate resilience practice. In that role, he advises global executives on building and executing corporate resilience, crisis response, and strategic initiatives related to geopolitical risk. His expertise lies not just in identifying and forecasting risk, but in crafting and implementing robust response mechanisms that safeguard client interests. He has worked with clients across North America, Europe, Africa and South Asia.

Johannsen was previously a Political Analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where he developed new intelligence programs focused on the intersection of political stability and human security. In addition to CIA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Johannsen served in sub-Saharan Africa and U.S. warzones. From 2022 to 2024, he served as an external consultant to the Directorate of National Intelligence. He is an Atlantic Council Millenium Leadership alumnus, a Truman National Security Fellow and a member of Foreign Policy for America’s NextGen Initiative.

Johannsen has an MA in international affairs from Columbia University, an MPA from Sciences Po, Paris, and a BA in political science from Tufts University. He lives in Manhattan with his husband and their two golden retrievers.
